Automatic Ultrasonic Cleaning Technology

The described system is a computer-controlled and operated machine via a touch panel, designed for the extraction and determination of binder content in Asphalt Concrete mixtures within a closed-loop system using non-flammable solvents. This machine complies with EN 12697/1, ASTM D 8159-2018, and AASHTO standards for Asphalt Concrete testing and analysis. It can be equipped to operate with solvents such as trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, or dichloromethane. It allows processing up to 3.5 kg of Asphalt Concrete material, which is weighed and placed in a washing drum, then automatically cleaned using solvents and ultrasonic technology.

During the process, the aggregates remain in the washing drum, while the binder, solvents, and fines (filler) from the Asphalt Concrete are separated in a centrifuge and subsequently in a recovery still via distillation, allowing for solvent reuse. Two windows permit visual inspection of the recovery process. The aggregates and fines are automatically dried, enabling sieve analysis to be performed at the end of the cycle for Asphalt Concrete evaluation.

The machine is software-operated and allows for the programming of washing and drying cycle sequences for Asphalt Concrete samples. Its main advantages include a fast extraction time (35 to 45 minutes) and a significant reduction in environmental impact, with a solvent loss of less than 20 ml per extraction. It requires a continuous cooling water supply and approximately 20 L of stabilized solvent for operation.

The recycling kit (RC-Asphalt) includes observation windows for the recovery process, a sieve inlet for uncollected Asphalt Concrete components, and LED-equipped temperature limiters for distillation processes. It also features a connection for a rotary evaporator, utilizing solvents such as stabilized trichloroethylene (HI-TRI-SMG) or perchloroethylene for efficient Asphalt Concrete binder recovery and analysis.
