Pavement evaluation for Punta Huete Airport – Nicaragua
Strinso carried out the functional and structural evaluation of the pavements at Punta Huete Airport, located north of Managua, Nicaragua. The project was executed under contract with China IPPR International Engineering Co., Ltd., and aimed to diagnose the current condition of the pavements in the airside areas, including the runway and taxiways, through the application of advanced technologies aimed at ensuring operational safety and airport efficiency.
The evaluation was carried out using non-destructive methodologies, supported by specialized equipment such as the Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS) for surface distress detection, the Heavy Weight Deflectometer (HWD) for pavement structural characterization, and the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for layer thickness estimation. Based on the collected data, the remaining useful life of the structures was estimated, and technical intervention alternatives were formulated, aligned with international guidelines and standards, particularly those established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
