Slab leveling and soil stabilization for rigid or hydraulic pavements
Solutions for slab leveling and soil stabilization
URETEK 486 Star®
Widely referenced throughout our industry, UDI involves the injection of structural polymer into base and subgrade soils to increase load-bearing capacity. This is achieved by injecting the polymer through small holes drilled directly through the pavement structure to depths determined by site-specific analysis.
This material flows easily into void and weak spaces within the subsurface mass. Through a controlled chemical reaction, the expanding polymer compacts the surrounding soils and applies controlled pressure to targeted areas of the affected pavement. If necessary, a multiple injection plan is used to gently return the pavement to its original grade. The composite material cures rapidly into a strong, dimensionally stable, and water-resistant geo-material, providing years of reliable service.
URETEK 486 Star® polymer is a two-component, high-density, expandable thermosetting polyurethane system. It was developed to be the ideal solution for sealing, filling voids, lifting settled pavement, stabilizing, stiffening weak soils, and encapsulating and sealing buried infrastructure. URETEK 486 Star® is environmentally inert, non-toxic, and resists erosion or weakening caused by groundwater due to its industry-leading hydrophobic properties.
Benefits of using polymer for slab leveling and soil stabilization
Rigid structural polymers have been tested and proven to be stable in underground applications for periods exceeding 75 years against any significant shrinkage or degradation.
The time required for the implementation of projects with polyurethane injection is remarkably shorter than any other repair technique. Project preparation time, the injection procedure, and product curing time are achieved in a matter of minutes or hours, compared to the days or even weeks that were usually required.
Prolonged downtime at the project site, traffic lane closures on highways, airport runways, railway tracks, or work closures are practically eliminated. The polyurethane cures to 95% of its ultimate strength in as little as 30 minutes.
Soil properties are not modified by products that require careful quality control on site (e.g., Portland cement, lime, fly ash, bitumen).
Surface or groundwater moisture is not a problem. Hydro-insensitive polymers remain consistently stable in wet or saturated soils.
